August

05 August 2013

August is going to be a great and busy month for Stone Hens Ceramics, with more new customers to work with, and new products and opportunities to work on!

I now have items for sale in a lovely little shop called Capel Jones, in Cowbridge.  My own little 'nook' filled with a broad selection of my products from Ceramic Buttons to Pin Trays, Angels to Paperweights!

Also, I have a new Button stockist in Abergavenny, a truly delightful little shop called The Wool Croft, in Cross Street. A selection of buttons available there shortly!

I am also very pleased to be supplying The Welsh Gift Shop, with a range of Christmas decorations and have been commissioned to produce a set of Welsh hearts for the near future.

The garden has produced some wonderful blooms during July, and now that the Lavender is in flower I am able to replenish my Lavender sugar. On a dry day(!), pick a couple of handfuls of Lavender heads and air dry over a few days. The flowers can then be taken easily from the stalks and added to a jar full of natural, unrefined castor sugar. Seal the jar and leave for a month or two. Make Shortbread in the usual way, but substitute Lavender Sugar for the Castor Sugar. It will be a delicious, delicate reminder of Summer with flecks of Lavender flowers throughout, making it look very pretty!

I have watched Kirsties new series, Fill Your House for Free. Inspiring stuff, and although I did part with a little money, and its for outdoors rather than indoors, I have managed to find a garden potting bench, and or clay 'potting' bench for the garden, and I am thrilled with it!

Larger and sturdier than those generally available in DIY stores, I have now coated it in timber preservative, (rather than Annie Sloan !), and can't wait to put it to use!

The one thing to watch, as an impulsive friend discovered the other day, is that when looking for furniture, you have to work out how to get it home before making your final decision!

I've begun making Christmas decorations and my kitchen is full of mischievous Gingerbread Men! I'm working on a couple of new designs for this year. I would just like to say order early for Christmas.....items are limited, simply because there's only me to make them, and each one is entirely hand made, no machinery involved!

Have a lovely August!
